  • Do I need a permit to purchase fish and/or other marine livestock?
State import rules vary across each jurisdiction in Australia. Some livestock (fish, coral, invertebrates) may be off-limits, some may need a permit or need inspection by bio-security officers. Know your state's regulations before diving in with us.
  • How do I know if Anything QT treats its fish and other marine livestock humanely?
We believe in giving our marine livestock the royal treatment — because every finned friend deserves dignity in their aquatic kingdom. 🐟 We are a NO to copper and other harmful chemicals like formalin in all of our systems. 🐟 The fresh-water dip as part of the Tank Transfer Method? Blink, and you might miss it!  🐟 No high-tech gadgets here! We use a hand-held net or our hands for the fishy catch. It's all hands-on deck for the transfer. 🐟 Snap, snap, snap — what you see is what you get? With our lightning-fast five-second photo shoots, every picture is quick for our fishy pals.  🐟 Plus, we believe in full bellies! We feed our finned friends during the TTM process, prepping them to be tip-top before they swim into your home sweet home!
  • Can corals and invertebrates introduce parasites into my aquarium?
Absolutely! Many organisms and parasites can hitch a ride into your tank with new fish, rocks, invertebrates, algae, or coral. Some unwanted guests, like mantis shrimps or bristleworms, are visible to the naked eye. While some may die off or be eaten by your fish, others can cause severe problems. Parasites can lead to marine velvet disease, marine white spot, and brooklynellosis, potentially wiping out an entire tank if not treated promptly. It's crucial to stay vigilant and take preventive measures when introducing anything new to your aquarium to protect your aquatic ecosystem.
  • What does the Tank Transfer Method or quarantine process involve?
In our experience, this is the ultimate parasite buster for our marine buddies and our preferred VIP fish treatment! 🐟 Every fish that enters our facility undergoes an intense 12 to 14 day quarantine extravaganza. We take no chances with parasites. They're dipped in fresh water and moved to fresh saltwater tubs every 72 hours. Fresh water dips banish parasites, while a hint of Prime keeps toxins at bay. No copper or formalin here, just safe, effective care. 🐟 But we don't stop there — our vigilant eyes are trained on every finned friend during the TTM journey. If any bacterial issues surface, we're on it in a flash, isolating and treating them with anti-biotics so they emerge stronger and healthier. 🐟 On completing the 12-14 day extravaganza, they're transferred to our holding systems and thrive in optimal conditions: salinity at 1.025, temperature between 24-26°C, and a pH of 7.7. 🐟 Corals and invertebrates are held for 72 days in a fishless environment. They are carefully monitored during this period for flatworms and other pesky parasites. Quarantining them separately breaks the cycle for common parasites, as there are no fish present in the system during this time. While our method sets your marine pals and your aquarium up for success, remember it's crucial to start with a sterile aquarium and quarantine any further newcomers (including fish, live-rock, coral and other invertebrates) into your aquarium. It prevents parasites from entering your system and wreaking havoc in your dream aquarium.
