Bimaculatus Anthias

Bimaculatus Anthias

Snapshot: Also known as the Two-Spot or Twin-Spot Anthias. The males sport one or two bold spots on their dorsal fin, paired with a head blushing pink that melts into a fiery red streak all the way to the tail. Meanwhile, the ladies dazzle in soft pink, accented by vibrant yellow fins, giving them a subtly elegant, yet eye-catching charm.

Other tidbits: Can grow up to 14cm or so. Distributed throughout the East Indian Ocean, West Indian Ocean, Australia, Indonesia, Central/West Pacific. This is a delicate fish. These shy beauties might go undercover for a bit as they settle into their new digs. Let them vibe in peace during acclimation.

Bare bones must know: Fish-only system, or reef aquarium. Larger sized aquarium needed.

  • Aquarium set-up: This species loves its hide-and-seek game strong — think cozy nooks and crannies between live rocks for their ultimate chill zone! Give this species plenty of room to roam, or they might turn up the attitude dial — space is their key to staying chill. Maintain an aquatic utopia by nailing the basics: rock-solid water quality with top-notch filtration and routine partial water changes.

Feeding: Anthias thrive on variety, gobbling up frozen mysis shrimp and enriched brine shrimp. Over time, sprinkle in high-quality flake foods in small doses throughout the day. But for the pièce de résistance, set up a refugium packed with copepods and amphipods— an endless buffet of live treats for these lively planktivores.

AQT note: All our fish feast on a diet of seaweed, marine pellets, flakes and frozen treats under our care. Keep the feast going in your tank!
