Blue-cheeked Butterflyfish

Blue-cheeked Butterflyfish

Snapshot: The Bluecheek Butterflyfish sports a bright yellow body with thin red / orange vertical lines. Unlike most other butterflyfish, it has no eye bar, just a grey patch behind its eyes.

Other tidbits: Can grow up to 23cm or so. Native to the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. This stunner is highly prized by marine aquarists for its beauty.

Bare bones must know: Live-rock fish only system, or fish only system. Top notch water quality. Too many active swimmers, like wrasses, can stress it.

  • Aquarium set-up: Set up your aquarium with plenty of live rock to create caves, overhangs, and large holes. Blue-cheeked butterflyfish are shy and value shelter. Maintain an aquatic utopia by nailing the basics: rock-solid water quality with top-notch filtration and routine partial water changes.

Feeding: Keep the butterflyfish menu diverse by serving up frozen or live treats like brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and chopped seafood. Don't forget top-notch marine flakes or pellets for balanced nutrition.

AQT note: All our fish feast on a diet of seaweed, marine pellets, flakes and frozen treats under our care. Keep the feast going in your tank!
