Bluebarred Parrotfish

Bluebarred Parrotfish

Snapshot: Also known as the Blue Chin Parrotfish or Blue Trim Parrotfish. Dudes rock shades of blue and green, with a touch of pink around the edges. They've got turquoise bands around their chin and eyes, and a pink dorsal fin with a pop of turquoise.

Other tidbits: Can grow up to a whopping 60cm! Range extends from South Africa and the Red Sea to Japan, Australia and French Polynesia.

Bare bones must know: Best suited to a live-rock fish-only system. Colossol size aquarium needed (to accomodate its growth). Thick, sandy substrate.

  • Aquarium set-up: Make sure your tank offers ample open spaces for swimming and adventurous exploration. Opt for a sandy substrate to mirror their native environment. Spice things up with live rock formations — perfect hideouts and algae hotspots. With live rock, you're not just decorating; you're serving up an all-you-can-eat algae buffet for your Bluebarred Parrotfish pals. Make sure your tank's decorations are locked down tight — they've got a knack for rearranging substrate and playing Jenga with rocks! Maintain an aquatic utopia by nailing the basics: rock-solid water quality with top-notch filtration and routine partial water changes.

Feeding: Keep your Bluebarred Parrotfish happy and satisfied with a menu packed full of algae delights — think spirulina flakes, seaweed sheets, and algae pellets. For a special treat, toss in some live or frozen goodies like mysis shrimp or brine shrimp.

AQT note: All our fish feast on a diet of seaweed, marine pellets, flakes and frozen treats under our care. Keep the feast going in your tank!
