Longhorn cowfish

Longhorn cowfish

Snapshot: This cowfish sports a yellow to olive base, adorned with striking white and bluish spots.

Other tidbits: Can grow up to a whopping 46cm or so! Distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific region from the Red Sea to Australia.

Bare bones must know: Live-rock fish-only system, or fish-only system. Use a container, not a net, for transfer to prevent stress. Handle with extreme care, its defense mechanism, is lethal. When threatened or when it dies, it releases a toxin deadly to other tank mates. Best kept in its own aquarium. Larger sized aquarium needed.

  • Aquarium set-up: Load up on live rock and sand. The rock offers shelter while the sand lets them hunt for worms by blowing it around with water jets. Steer clear of strong currents. Longhorn cowfish struggle with swimming, so ditch directional filter outflow and powerhead currents that offer no refuge. Otherwise, they might get slammed against tank glass or coral.Maintain an aquatic utopia by nailing the basics: rock-solid water quality with top-notch filtration and routine partial water changes.

Feeding:  Longhorn Cowfish need a mix of meaty and vegetable foods. They're slow eaters and shouldn't be kept with aggressive feeders.

AQT note: All our fish feast on a diet of seaweed, marine pellets, flakes and frozen treats under our care. Keep the feast going in your tank!
