Matted Filefish
Snapshot: Also known as the Aiptasia Eating Filefish, its body is a dynamic blend of mottled green, brown, and tan hues. It is a camouflage masterpiece!
Other tidbits: Can grow up to 9cm or so. Native to the tropical waters of the Indo-West Pacific region including the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Indonesia. If you're looking for an aiptasia assassin for your aquarium, the Matted Filefish is your ultimate weapon. Their tiny scales create a rugged shield, earning these species the alias 'Leatherjacket.'
Bare bones must know: Live-rock fish-only system, fish-only system, or reef aquarium with care. Mature or well established aquarium only with large amounts of algae growth. Use a container, rather than a net when moving them.
Aquarium set-up: Sprinkle sand over crushed coral substrate, then adorn with an abundance of live rock, providing both grazing grounds and shelter for your Filefish. Maintain an aquatic utopia by nailing the basics: rock-solid water quality with top-notch filtration and routine partial water changes.
Feeding: Craft the perfect menu of shrimp, squid, scallop, mysis shrimp, and freeze-dried krill. Top it off with frozen marine algae for a feast fit for aquatic royalty!
AQT note: All our fish feast on a diet of seaweed, marine pellets, flakes and frozen treats under our care. Keep the feast going in your tank!
