Mustard Tang
Snapshot: Also known as the Whitespotted Surgeonfish. This fish flaunts a sleek gray body with two shiny silver stripes in front and a back half dotted with white spots. Its tail and pelvic fins burst with vibrant yellow, creating a striking contrast.
Other tidbits: Can grow up to 26cm or so. Distributed throughout the East Indian Ocean, West Indian Ocean, Australia, Indonesia, East Pacific, Central/West Pacific Oceans.
Bare bones must know: Live-rock fish-only system or reef aquarium. Well established and mature aquarium only. A sensitive superstar during transport, extra care needed while it acclimates to its new home.
Aquarium set-up: These fish thrive in a top-notch aquarium where they can munch on algae like it’s a buffet, grazing on the rocks and stones. Plenty of live rock is essential. This species loves to swim free, so they need a spacious aquarium to truly thrive. This species loves hide-and-seek, so it needs cozy spots to chill, especially when settling into the aquarium. Maintain an aquatic utopia by nailing the basics: rock-solid water quality with top-notch filtration and routine partial water changes.
Feeding: For tangs, algae is king! Load up on algae-based essentials like toasted nori sheets, algae flakes, and pellets. And for a gourmet twist, treat them to frozen brine shrimp enriched with spirulina. It's an algae feast fit for royalty!
