Orchid Dottyback
Snapshot: Orchid Dottybacks dazzle with their vibrant purple bodies and fins, some flaunting red fringes on the top and bottom. A distinctive black stripe runs from their mouth through their eye.
Other tidbits: Can grow up to 7cm or so. Native to the Red Sea.
Bare bones must know: Live-rock fish-only system, or reef aquarium. Known for preying on pests like small mantis shrimp and bristleworms, it's a top choice for reef aquariums.
Aquarium set-up: Fill up your aquarium with plenty of live rock to create crevices and caves for your dottyback to explore and hide. Maintain an aquatic utopia by nailing the basics: rock-solid water quality with top-notch filtration and routine partial water changes.
Feeding: Basslets, grammas, forktails, and dottybacks are versatile eaters, readily devouring a variety of foods. Among their favorites are small frozen crustaceans like brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and top-notch frozen blends.
AQT note: All our fish feast on a diet of seaweed, marine pellets, flakes and frozen treats under our care. Keep the feast going in your tank!
