Pakistani Butterflyfish

Pakistani Butterflyfish

Snapshot: Also known as the Red-Tailed Butterflyfish. This beauty flaunts deep brown to black tones with speckled scales, a bold mask-like head with white and black bands, and a striking tail of red, black, and white stripes.

Other tidbits: Can grow up to 18cm or so. Distributed throughout the East Indian Ocean, West Indian Ocean, Australia, Japan, Indonesia, and the Central/West Pacific.  This species is like a hit squad for glass anemones (Aiptasia).

Bare bones must know: Live-rock fish-only system or reef aquarium with care. Well established and mature aquariums only. Top notch water quality required.

  • Aquarium set-up: These fish thrive in a top-notch aquarium, where they can snack on algae straight off the rocks and stones like a buffet! They also love their privacy — especially when they're new to the scene — so make sure to hook it up with plenty of cozy hideouts! They also love to cruise, so give it plenty of room to show off its swimming skills in style. Maintain an aquatic utopia by nailing the basics: rock-solid water quality with top-notch filtration and routine partial water changes.

Feeding: Keep the butterflyfish menu diverse by serving up frozen or live treats like brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and chopped seafood. Don't forget top-notch marine flakes or pellets for balanced nutrition. If the Yellow Pyramid Butterfly is underfed, it might start snacking on Xenia or other soft corals! To keep this beauty happy and healthy, aim to feed it several times a day.

AQT note: All our fish feast on a diet of seaweed, marine pellets, flakes and frozen treats under our care. Keep the feast going in your tank!
