Melanurus Wrasse

Melanurus Wrasse

Snapshot: This fish flaunts a vibrant blue-green body adorned with striking horizontal pink or yellow stripes.

Other tidbits: Can grow up to 12cm or so. Native to the tropical waters of the Western Pacific Ocean from Australia and Fiji to Indonesia, Japan, Samoa and Tonga. These wrasses are expert pest exterminators.

Bare bones must know: Live-rock fish only, fish-only system or reef aquarium. Thick, sandy substrate.

  • Aquarium set-up: Offer plenty of hiding nooks for maximum security and privacy. Don't forget the lid — these acrobats are known to make daring leaps from open aquariums!  Wrasses love their comfort — give them a cozy sandbed to burrow into when they need a snooze or sense trouble. Maintain an aquatic utopia by nailing the basics: rock-solid water quality with top-notch filtration and routine partial water changes.

Feeding: It will devour fireworms and pyramidellid snails in your aquarium, safeguarding your corals and clams. Plus, it's on standby to snack on feather dusters, wild shrimp, tubeworms, and flatworms, not to mention cleaning up parasites from its tank mates. To keep your Wrasse in top form, supplement its natural diet with a gourmet meal of frozen mysis and brine shrimp, alongside high-quality marine flakes and pellets.

AQT note: All our fish feast on a diet of seaweed, marine pellets, flakes and frozen treats under our care. Keep the feast going in your tank!
