Scott's Fairy Wrasse
Snapshot: Also known as the Black-fin or Blackedge Fairy Wrasse. Location makes a difference to its colouration. In Fiji, it's dubbed Scott's Greenback, boasting vibrant green hues punctuated by a bold black edge along its dorsal fin. Head to the Cook Islands, and you'll find a bluer beauty, flaunting yellow fins and sharper color contrasts. Meanwhile, down under in Australia, expect a touch more red in the fins, though with subtler transitions.
Other tidbits: Can grow up to 13cm or so. Native to the tropical waters of the South Pacific Ocean including Australia, the Cook Islands and Fiji. Just like us, their mood can influence their hues, adding an extra layer of intrigue.
Bare bones must know: Live-rock fish only, fish-only or reef aquarium.
Aquarium set-up: These wrasses thrive in the live rock haven of reef tanks. They also crave wide-open spaces to strut their stuff. Don't forget the lid — these acrobats are known to make daring leaps from open aquariums! Wrasses love their comfort — give them a cozy sandbed to burrow into when they need a snooze or sense trouble. Maintain an aquatic utopia by nailing the basics: rock-solid water quality with top-notch filtration and routine partial water changes.
Feeding: Keep your Wrasse in top form with a gourmet diet of vitamin-enriched frozen mysis and brine shrimp, alongside high-quality marine flakes and pellets.
AQT note: All our fish feast on a diet of seaweed, marine pellets, flakes and frozen treats under our care. Keep the feast going in your tank!
