Yellow / Canary Top Wrasse

Yellow / Canary Top Wrasse

Snapshot: Also known as the Yellow Wrasse, Golden Wrasse or Yellow Coris Wrasse. Juveniles rock two fierce black "eyespots" on their dorsal fin, plus a smaller dot by the tail. As they mature, one spot vanishes, leaving a lone warrior mark. And for some alpha males, fine green lines grace their faces.

Other tidbits: Can grow up to 12cm or so. Native to the waters of the Indo-Pacific region, the East Indian Ocean, and the Western Pacific Ocean from the Solomons, southern Japan to the Australian coast. The Yellow Wrasse may resemble the aggressive Sunset Wrasse as a juvenile, but don't be mistaken. The Sunset Wrasse is whole different beast! These wrasses are expert pest exterminators.

Bare bones must know: Live-rock fish only, fish-only system or reef aquarium with care. Thick, sandy substrate.

  • Aquarium set-up: Mimic their natural reef habitat by loading up on live rock, creating a maze of hideouts and hunting grounds. Leave open space for swimming. Don't forget the lid — these acrobats are known to make daring leaps from open aquariums!  Wrasses love their comfort — give them a cozy sandbed to burrow into when they need a snooze or sense trouble. Maintain an aquatic utopia by nailing the basics: rock-solid water quality with top-notch filtration and routine partial water changes.

Feeding: It will gobble up fireworms, and pyramidellid snails to safeguard your corals and clams. But watch out — this voracious appetite doesn't discriminate. It might mistake your beloved ornamental invertebrates for snacks. So, keep an eye out, especially for fan worms and shrimp, as they might disappear into the Yellow Wrasse's belly. To keep your Wrasse in top form, supplement its natural diet with a gourmet meal of frozen mysis and brine shrimp, alongside high-quality marine flakes and pellets.

AQT note: All our fish feast on a diet of seaweed, marine pellets, flakes and frozen treats under our care. Keep the feast going in your tank!
